What makes this different
650 mg of dulse per capsule, and nothing else. No rice powder, no fillers, no binders. Many dulse capsules on the market use a gelatin shell and pad the capsule with rice powder — ours is a vegetarian capsule containing only dulse.
One capsule a day, so a 90-count bottle is 90 servings rather than 45.
Why dulse and not kelp. Most sea vegetable supplements are kelp, and kelp carries a very high iodine load — roughly three to four times what dulse does, gram for gram. That makes kelp difficult to take daily without overshooting badly on a single mineral. Dulse sits in a moderate range, which is what makes it a daily food rather than an intervention. You get a broad, balanced spread of trace minerals instead of one mineral in a very loud dose.
Whole plant, not an extract. An extract only carries what the solvent can dissolve — the rest of the plant is discarded. The minerals in a sea vegetable are largely bound up in the cell wall, which is exactly the fraction extraction leaves behind. This is the milled sea vegetable itself: fiber, mineral matrix, and all.
Hand-harvested, and never cooked. Our dulse is hand-harvested from remote Gulf of Maine bays and solar-dried at low temperature. That matters more than it sounds. Iodine and the water-soluble minerals leach out when sea vegetables are boiled — much of what you want ends up in the cooking water and goes down the drain. Low-temperature drying preserves the enzymes and the mineral profile, so what goes into the capsule is what came out of the ocean.

Measuring by the spoonful doesn't translate. Milling removes air, so a tablespoon of whole-leaf flakes and a tablespoon of finely milled powder can differ by close to double in how much dulse they actually contain. Same spoon, very different amount.
If you currently measure flakes by volume, weigh a level tablespoon of what you have on a kitchen scale. Divide that figure by 0.65 g and you have the capsule equivalent.
Q: Why capsules instead of flakes or whole leaf?
A: Taste, mostly. Dulse is a sea vegetable and tastes distinctly like one. In twenty years of clinical practice I watched a lot of people buy flakes with the best intentions and quietly stop using them — which is why I ended up producing this in the first place. A capsule takes flavour out of the equation, and that is often the difference between something taken daily and something at the back of the cupboard.
The milled powder also carries far more surface area than a leaf fragment, so it disperses readily rather than needing to be broken down first.

A: An extract captures what the solvent can dissolve and discards the rest of the plant. That works well for compounds that dissolve readily. But the minerals in a sea vegetable are largely bound up in the cell wall — which is exactly the fraction extraction leaves behind — and minerals are the main reason to take dulse in the first place.
It is also worth reading extract labels closely. Potency is usually given as "herbal equivalent," meaning the amount of raw plant the extract was made from, not what is in the bottle. A 6:1 extract delivers roughly one-sixth that weight in actual material.
