Top 3 Causes of Sternoclavicular (SC) Joint Pain

Top 3 Causes of Sternoclavicular (SC) Joint Pain

Most SC joint pain actually comes from muscle and fascia, not the joint itself.

1. Muscle & Fascia Issues (MOST COMMON)
The biggest culprits: SCM trigger points, tight chest muscles (pec major/minor, subclavius), scalene tension, and forward head posture.
These respond extremely well to manual therapy and tissue release.

2. Wear & Tear (Less Common)
Pain from arthritis, old injuries, strain, or repetitive lifting, which can cause stiffness or a visible bump at the collarbone.

3. Infection (RARE)
Usually accompanied by fever, redness, and severe swelling — needs immediate medical care.

💡 Bottom Line: If you're dealing with unexplained chest or collarbone pain, targeted tissue release and postural correction can make a major difference.
